Family therapy focuses on addressing issues within the context of family dynamics and relationships. It addresses a wide range of issues that can affect family functioning. These may include communication problems, conflicts, parenting challenges, marital or relationship difficulties, substance abuse, mental health issues, grief and loss, blended family adjustments, and major life transitions.
Simon helps identify and explore the underlying causes of these issues and works with the family to develop strategies for resolution and improve the functioning of the family as a unit and as individuals.
An initial appointment is generally made with Simon by one or two family members to discuss the situation and to determine whether family therapy is suitable. If the family proceeds with family therapy, Simon sees each family member individually first to ensure he understands the situation and issues and how they affect each family member. Once all family members have attended an individual session, a family therapy session is arranged (session is for 2 hours).
Common reasons people may seek family therapy include:
"Our family just wasn't getting on and it was causing a lot of conflict and stress for everyone.
Simon helped us to talk about the issues, understand each other's perspectives and find common ground."
